OK......... Admittedly I haven't followed Cobb Co migration to P25 becuase I didn't have a digital scanner. Now I do.

I see that Marietta and other agencies in Cobb remain on the Cobb Type-II analog TRS including Cobb Co Fire TAC/Fireground talkgroups.

Looking at Cobb on the GEWIN digital system there are two licenses, two sets of frequencies and certainly two different control channels active at any one time.

My contact w/ Cobb County is when driving during my work or an occaisional weekend shopping trip.

I'm of the belief that I should program Cobb Control Channels.

Curious, what happens if I program the Georgia GEWIN licensed frequencies??? Could I enter Cobb's talkgroups into the Georgia System ( to use Uniden 996 terminology ) frequencies?

Thanks,
Julian

Julian--have you asked Mike? He has a 996. I know that I had them programmed in my 96 that way. Sometimes I would hear the GEWIN system, sometimes the Cobb. The GEWIN system is easier to copy in Gwinnett because of the way the towers are set up.

The Cobb P25 system took about 1/2 of the analog frequencies and made them digital. All of Cobb PD, SO, H2O, Hospital Security and a few others are on digital. Mostly, Fire & Marietta are still analog. My 996 has the P25 on "Bank 1" and the analog on "Bank 2".

Go to the ScanAtlanta Yahoogroups and look up file Cobb County_1.m96 . It is in the ARC996 format.

Julian,
The Cobb County frequencies carry ALL of the Cobb County related traffic, ALL the time. The SoG frequencies only carry traffic for talkgroups which have at least one subscriber affiliated with an SoG tower. To explain further, a Cobb Zone 1 officer (North Cobb) when in-territory will not likely ever affiliate with an SoG tower since there aren't any close to Zone 1. So only rarely (say, when a Zone 1 officer goes to Federal court downtown) will you hear Zone 1 being broadcast on the SoG frequencies. Conversely, STEP officers are all over the county, and there is usually a STEP officer somewhere near an SoG tower - maybe near Roswell or down on 75 at the River. If one or more radios tuned to the STEP channels affiliates with an SoG tower, then STEP Dispatch will be heard on the SoG frequencies.

Make sense?

Cobb P25

I use both the 996 and 396. The 996 is great because you can add both the Cobb Digital and GEWIN as sites, and therefore use the same set of talkgroups.
As previously discussed, I scan various traffic on both systems and since I'm in far East Cobb the GEWIN coverage is a necessity (analog really blows out here).
The 396 is a bit more problematic, since I have to set up two systems and I simply duplicate TG's using the butel program and use the same quickkey for both.

Bottom line, if you want to catch everything, I'd suggest plugging in BOTH Cobb P25 and GEWIN. RC
