Cobra 29 LX

Good evening folks, I have a 29 LX that seems to be giving me a little bit of a headache. Since I bought this radio new last year, it’s had a gremlin of “RF Power Output Fail”. That I can deal with. Now, more recently, it seems that it has low signal output. It had a peak and tune done to it shortly after I got it (save the chastising guys, I’m kicking myself for it enough as is), but I know I’ve read somewhere there is a pot that can be turned internal on the radio to give the meter S9. Is it possible that pot got turned down from the tech which is why I have low output? I have no external meter to verify what it’s putting out, only the meter on the radio. Also, no secondary radio to verify it’s even transmitting. However, I have a scanner in my truck that’s capable of receiving cb and it transmits there.

I'd invest in a $30 SWR/Watt meter that can tell you what the output is.

If the meter says it's producing the legal 3 or 4 Watts or so, then you can enjoy the use of the radio and use the meter for future problems or questions. If the meter says it's not producing at the legal level, then I'd junk the tainted 29, buy a new one, and threaten harm to anybody who wants to open the case unless it's for warranty work at the factory.
