• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Good afternoon I hope it’s ok that I’m posting this on here. Someone gave me a COBRA 86 XLR with a microphone and the microphone is not one of the small black handheld ones. It is a medal one that you would sit on a flat surface and talk into it. It was an older fellow who gave it to me and he told me that it needed a new antenna and to make sure I told because it would burn something up. I don’t have a clue I just wanted to share the information. I have no need for this snd I’m trying to find out how much it is worth and what websites would be my best options to try and sale it: I would appreciate any feedback and thanks in advance for your help.

Ebay. Put it on there and let people fight over it.

There's some serious nostalgia for old radios, and people will pay a lot to get back a piece of their past.

Value is dependent on condition and how well it works. Older radios can be problematic and require some work to restore. Unless you have the test equipment to prove that it works, it should be sold as "for parts, not working".

Thanks for responding first of all. The gentleman that gave it to me is a very trusty worthy man. I actually clean for and know his family anyways according to him it works great he just said it needs a new antenna. Anyways, thanks again and I will definitely take the eBay route.

That's good to know. Knowing it was treated well is a good thing, and might make a difference if you sell it locally.
On line, you'll get skepticism, and if it doesn't work perfectly when someone buys it on e-Bay, they'll complain.

I really appreciate the info. I’ve never sold on eBay I have bought so thanks for letting me know. He was just going to throw it away and I thought someone would like to have it. I tried attaching a picture but I received a message stating it was too big a file however I did reply to the notification email that you had responded but I don’t know if you get that or it goes to a general mailbox. I have no clue what to even ask for it. I can’t find that model anywhere online. I do appreciate your help though.

Won't get to me. You'd have to shrink the photo down and attach it.

Start the bidding at $50 + shipping and let it go from there. If people want it, the price will find its own level. I've sold a few radios on e-Bay, and I'm always surprised how much people will pay for the old stuff.

Well that was easy enough! I think the microphone is worth more than the radio at least when I look it up I. An find it and they’re listed for around 100 by theirselves but I was going to list em together for that however that may be too high.

Yeah, I think you are on to something there. Maybe someone more familiar with it can give you some pricing ideas.

As for that antenna, it's not a CB antenna and won't work well at all. OK for receiving, it won't hurt, but won't hear much. Try not to transmit with it.

Well he did say not to use the antenna with it I don’t know why he had it anyway. Maybe he was just throwing it away too who knows so I’ll just toss it I wouldn’t think it would be worth anything. Well thank you so much for your feedback and I’m going to get on eBay tomorrow and list it and just see what happens. It may take a while to sale but all it takes is “the right one” to come along and it’ll be sold. Again thanks and have good night!
