To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good evening, I am trying to program my apx900 however when trying write to the radio it gives me an error message stating there’s a code plug mismatch. I never ran into this type of error before, does anyone know what it means?

Did you read the radio first then modify that codeplug? Or is the codeplug from a radio with a different FLASHcode/serial #? Did you recently update firmware and the codeplug you're modifying in CPS is an older version?

It means you’re trying to write to the radio with a codeplug that belongs in a different radio.
Or he's trying to write a saved codeplug to a radio that has been updated, and there has been codeplug structure changes, that the old codeplug doesn't match

Are you allowed to Clone the radio using the cloning feature as the other CPS allows for the previous series radios? If so, try the cleaning feature.

Flash and firmware must match I believe
The firmware never needed to match to clone. Used to be the model # and FLASH needed to match exactly, however MSI has relaxed that restriction with APX CPS recently. In many cases you are now able to clone from an equal or lesser capable radio into an equal or more capable radio, regardless of the model # or FLASH. So if you have a 6000AN and a 6000BN with roughly the same FLASH, the BN will probably accept the AN's codeplug with a clone operation.

And if all else fails, just read the target radio, open two instances of APX CPS, and do a top level drag-n-drop of the entire codeplug, then sort out whatever invalid fields might pop up. Easy peasy.
