Hi. I just moved into Cody and programmed my pro-96 to the frequencies listed in the RR database for the local PD and Sheriff, but I'm not really getting anything other than on/off duty calls, an occasional registration check, and what sounds like high-speed Morse code. Has Cody moved entirely to Digital/WyoLink by now? Every once and again I'll hear the dispatcher fine, but when the officer she's talking to answers, it sounds like digital noise. It's not an encrypted transmission, is it?

Also, someone said that because it's a smaller town, they do a lot of business via cell phone nowadays, which doesn't seem to make any sense, but I thought I'd check the validity anyway.

While I am not sure about Cody, I know a lot of other towns are simulcasting on WyoLink and their old analog frequency. So you will hear dispatch on the analog frequency, but not hear anybody else. This was the case in Sweetwater and Carbon counties.

Park County is not yet on Wyolink. Cody PD is Digital with a lot of encryption. Park County So. is FM with occasional encryption. Fire and Ems are also FM, but have no encryption. All the other state agencies are on Wyolink (Highway Patrol, WyDot, Salecs) I don't know where you live in relation to Cody, but you may need a better Ant.
This is what i have programed into my Pro-106
Cody PD. 154.3325 Nac 114 (P25)
Cody Fire 1 155.895
Park Co. So.1 155.370
Park Co. So. 2 155.190
Park Co. So. Tac 158.970
Ceder Mt. (Fire, Ems, SaR paging and county talk around) 155.790

I pick up crusiers on S/O freq fine from my department radio and scanner..usually. sometimes they use the cedar tower though which is a diff freq, and yes some times it is encrypted. Cody is usually just dead quiet. Alot of VIN checks, etc. Cody pd is now UHF, fire ems and sheriffs are still low band.

Yeah, so what's the deal with all the encryption? It seems like 70% of the Cody PD units are encrypted vs. almost none on S.O. channels. I've never heard this much encryption in my life. I was talking to friend who lives in NYC and said that the only time he hears encryption is when the Prez/ Secret Service is in town. It's not like anything in Cody is THAT serious. Did Cody PD just have money to burn?

dhb, I would have to agree it is ridiculous. I would have thought once they switched over to P25 they would almost never use encryption, because very few people would actually pay $500 for a scanner. Like you said they must have just had money to burn, I'll ask around a little.
