As of today Comal County Sheriff flipped the switch for the big E. Guess they liked the Kerr County set up. County and city on two different systems and LE channels locked down. Next big flood we will see how interoperability goes.

It's the same two systems involved as Kerr County…both of which G1 R OP 6 through G1 R OP 10 as full time patches across both systems (same TGID on both systems). The interop capability has been there the whole time.

The only potential issue for any one of those system users would be bringing 700/800 MHz only radios to a VHF/700/800 party…which is something I believe support coming out of San Antonio did.

Always wondered what the G zone interop channels were used for. i haven't seen them used on the LCRA side but I also haven't been monitoring or looking. Good info. Yeah SAFD only had the 7/800 radios.

I have worked around their system. There are about 6 LCRA patches soley for Bexar County to the LCRA. From what I can remember at least the system end users there was no GATRRS zones.

Yep - I can confirm... I remember the CC Board meeting where Sheriff asked for approval to add the "E" license option to the radio upgrade project in 2023, and the writing was on the wall...

I mean, multikey AES encryption is required in all grant funded radios…

Should those G1 talkgroups 6-10 be listed in the LCRA database as well? I haven't heard or seen them pop up, and I don't have much knowledge about which channels are patched between the systems. I don't like to submit unless I have heard channels used or seen a programming personality or codeplug

I’ve seen some random 1000 and 6500 talkgroups that popped up during the floods, it’s probably some of those on LCRA, just didn’t have time to cross reference them on calls back then.

Yeah, most agencies have the AES multikey encryption package when they switch systems or upgrade radios on an existing one. It's usually up to the agency's Chief or Sheriff whether they want to be in the clear, fully locked down, or use selectable encryption(also, some politics usually get involved). As with AARRS down here, a handful of LE agencies operate in the clear and can switch to encryption if they want, with the keys for all other agencies around them. SAPD, BCSO, etc, loaded in their radios. On the LCRA side, I know some New Braunfels PD have GATRRS and the Comal SO channels since Comal switched. I would assume they loaded the SO keys during key loading.
