• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

    If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello All,

I have read on numerous forms and sites that it is possible to combine a VRS and Siren/PA box. The thing I cannot find is any proof or documentation on how to do it? I am very interested in doing this but would like to have a preview of what is involved. I have recently purchased the HLN1185E and would like to combine it with a yet to be purchased VRS and use only one cable. Any guides, pictures, etc would be greatly appreciated!

There's a plug which "sandwiches" in between the PA/Siren and the cable to the radio. Another cable comes off of this plug and connects to the VR.

VRS?? the HLN1185e has a special cable (NOT JUST A PLUG) to interface to the radio. There are cables for the old Syntor, SyntorX, SyntorX 9000, series, then for the Spectra and the Spectra Astro, and even going further back even the Micro and Mitrex radios.

You need to know what you are dealing with.

VRS = Vehicular Repeater System.

The cable to the Siren/PA from the radio gets unplugged from the Siren/PA and the cable to the VRS gets put in its place.

The old Siren/PA cable then gets plugged into the back of the VRS connector which is plugged into the Siren/PA.

Kind of hard to explain but it works.

I've got a Siren/PA and VRS750 running on my XTL5000.

Thank you for your replies, can you post/send pictures if your install? Also what I was referring to is combining a Siren/PA and VRS into one single housing and using one cable to go to the radio. I've found alot of talk that it can be done but no pictures or documentation.

Not much point in taking pictures. It's a VRS and Siren/PA joined with a cable. I'll try and get a part number for the cable later.
In all my years, I've never heard of anybody combining them in one box. I've heard of people homebrewing the cables but never combining the units. It would take a pretty large box to house both.
