I have some more backing to do before the Dell guy comes with this new drive and wipes me clean. I'm not even thinking about Windows 10 yet I have get this computer back and running with 7 I read earlier guys here are having trouble with drivers for their scanners and radios. That's one thing I actually have been ok with before this disgrace, all my radios were talking to my computer. When he is done I will create a point of reference so that if it crashes or gets corrupted again I will have system restore to the rescue. The pizza guy erased all of that. Dell wasn't to amused because they had a recovery partition built in that he deleted. I think this guy deliberately did this so he could come back again and charge me more money.

Well here is the happy ending. The Dell tech called today @ 3:42pm saying he would be there by 4:00 which he did. He popped out my original drive, put the new one in,got a tad confused as to why she booted off the rachet drive so I explained. He then proceeded to switch drives to make the big one the primary, unplugged the 75 gig one,and she booted off the image on my now one and only "C" drive. She now runs like my old Gixxer 1000 K6( Suzuki motorcycle). I'm happy all order has been restored. Now all I have to do is put everything I backed up,get all my programs back, radio stuff and I will be good to go. And upgrade to Windows 10? I'm saying it that way because I'm hesitant. I like how 10 looks but I'm not sure I'll upgrade yet until I read that all the driver issues are resolved with radio programming software. I want to again thank everybody who helped me through this process.

more than likely that HDD had a bad sector or many of them. Partition Wizard can check for these

Yeah I guess Capt. She's running good now my wife figured out how to put the other drive back in and we watched a YouTube video on how to allocate it. She copied over some stuff that didn't transfer but we noticed that with two hard drives in this 8500 it ran real slow. So I left for work, the files copied over and she erased the two and the original is going back to Dell and the other one is going in the garbage. Now we know how to put a additional hard drive in a computer and assign it. I admit I was a little nervous but she did it. I was impressed. Now if in can find all my files that need to go back in their perseptive programs, that would be a joy.

dual drives is something i always advocate, for data retention. you can always replace windows and apps, but more important things like photos and sensitive documents should be on a second drive. and for redundancy a cloud storage.

I have my external drive and I'm going to go and get some more flash drives and back stuff up. Now that I have my partition back if it fails again at least I can do a system restore. I wanted to get a solid state drive but I spent enough money this month.

honestly, id use a large Internal HDD on SATA II or III and a External for redundancy, i also use cloud based from Google ( 50GB ) and Verizon Cloud ( 25GB Worth ) for my phone stuff which i regularly back to my PC.

you can NEVER trust when any device may fail at any given time.
