I'm just curious, and I used to own one, does anyone use the Austin Condor antenna?

Hi DaveIN: Not me although I'm a big fan of Austin products (I have the Spectra and the Ferret) but why don't you have the Condor any more? How did you like it when you had it?

I have one and I stopped using it on my handhelds due to it's bulk. I do use it as a back of the set antenna on my wide band base scanner and it does a very nice job there.

It does live up to it's ugly name. I found it adequate for the VHF-Hi and UHF bands it is designed for, but overall I would only use it if I had no other replacement for the stock antenna when I had it. Interesting design. It's a good antenna to have in the arsenal, but there are many better ones from my experience. I'm mostly curious about the new one with SMA connector and how it functions mechanically on the radios with an SMA connector. Hopefully there is enough strain relief to avoid connector problems.
