The Associated Press: Comcast tries pop-up alerts to warn of infections
Security Fix - Comcast Trials Browser Alerts for Bot-Infected Customer PCs
Okay, so they're pretty much telling me that I'm incapable of securing my paid for network???
Sure like to know how a banner can get through my script blocking, ActiveX blocking in the router, iptables, and FF pop up blocking. Not yo mention Opendns, and the firewall which uses packet inspection....
Maybe they're using SOAP?
Just a way to make sure they can maintain better service for us or them?
If you ask me, all this fancy stuff they deploy for the stupid can have draw backs. I think the throttling software has drawbacks on the network too. Personally, I don't need the stupid watchful eye. I monitor all traffic through SNMP and have security up the yin yang.
Sure hope this software that they will deploy doesn't have a high degree of false positives. It might think that because you run p2p damn near 24/7 it will give you an annoying pop up based on the "usage" of you network. Perhaps it's more packet scrutinizing?
Know what ISPs can do? Offer a DNS based filtering system attached to your account with web based user preferences and an ability to block CHINA ! Everyday I have incoming connections show up in the log from that country. Needless to say, I wonder where a great majority of the bot nets come from?
Yep, I'm pissed....
