as I've said before, and is in my profile, I live in Deschutes County, in Oregon. I have a bc346xt uniden scanner. If I enter all the control channels from my area, I should be set...right? (that seems to simple for me) This new technology is REALLY confusing. I've done a bunch of reading, but dont seem to be getting things. I can't figure out how to download using freescan, nor can i figure out how to do it manually. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all

I would like to know as well. As, my new BCD396XT will be here tomorrow and I have to Manually enter my frequencies because I use a Macintosh. What is the best method to do this Manually, (setting it up properly).

Thx!

In addition to the control channel frequencies, you need to download the talk-groups you wish to monitor on those cc freqs. Don't forget to assign a Quick-Key as well (similar to banks).

Yeah. I have been reading the "Easier to Read BCD396XT Manual" and am trying to learn it all. It is going to take some time. As, I am not used to Dynamic Memory ALLocation at all. It's weird not having Banks and Channels on the Scanner. I'm sure I will find it better in the long run. There will be a lot of finger pressing to Manually enter all of this stuff. Not to mention building Quick Keys and such. What a mess.

Yes, initially it can be overwhelming, we've all been there! It's like you have to forget everything you know, and start out fresh.

Any reason why you're not using your computer, and software? It's MUCH easier! FreeSCAN is excellent, and it's free, as the name implies.

ScanNow.org - The Home of FreeSCAN!

I also highly recommend Butel's ARC-XT. They have a free 30-day trial download. It's not too expensive, works great!

Software for Uniden Radioshack GRE GRECOM AOR police scanner software PRO-97 PRO-96 PRO-2096 PRO-106 PRO-197 PRO-164 PRO-160 PRO-162 psr500 psr600 psr300 psr400 psr100 psr200 BCD996T BCT15 BC246T UBC800XLT UBC785XLT PRO-433 PRO-528 BCD396T PRO-2051 P

I think once you see how the dynamic memory is laid out and managed in the software, it will give you a better understanding of how it all works.

This is why:
Unfortunately, I have only a Macintosh. So, I'm hoping I can go to a Kinko's and rent use of their PC to use Freescan and RR Database. I already am a premium subscriber here. Do you know if Kinko's would allow me to hook my new scanner up to the rental PC?? Just a thought. Would beat manually entering all this data.

There is PC-XP emulation software for your Mac, you might want to look into.

I doubt you'll be able to install anything on a PC in a library. The admin probably has it blocked. No friends or neighbors with a PC? Maybe there are some RR members in your area that would be willing to help.

Another solution might be to pick up a cheap used PC off Ebay. You can get some really nice IBM's, or DELL's for under $100.00 shipped, that will do the job!

You might want to consider one of the programs that allows you to run Windows software on your Mac. I'm told that FreeScan runs under some of them. If you're thinking of doing that, check on the FreeScan forum on scannow.org to get specifics of which ones work.

If you could describe what the problem is with FreeScan, perhaps we can help you get things going. It's well worth the effort since it will make everything else much easier to do and to understand.
