I went to Starbucks yesterday and saw two Cox Cable trucks in the parking lot. Both trucks had 18-inch VHF-High band antennas. I don't see any VHF licenses in the FCC database for Cox. I believe all dispatching is done by MDT. Does anyone know if they use these for car-to-car (on-site, for example) or what they use them for? My only guess would be either itinerant freqs or unlicensed freqs, the first being more likely.

Many cable companies use RF sniffers on their service vans looking for leaks. The ones I'v seen all use VHF frequencies, probably because the most critical leaks are around the VHF air band. Any cable leakage in that area will interfere with FAA and aircraft communications.

Don't they use Nextel PTT? It's been awhile since I've had to deal with any Cox people.. but I think I remember them having Nextel.
