• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

i found two motorola cp200's at work that i would like to reincorporate into the field. After charging i turn the units on get one flash orange and then a blinking green light. sound is two quick low tones then one high tone followed by two more quick high tones. they are 4 channel uhf. both radios respond the same way but when i try to ptt from one the other does not receive the communication. Channel 4 on both devices gives me a steady low tone. Occasionaly both devices will beep two quick high tones without pushing any of the buttons. i have no idea what the programming functions are on these devices. I would like to get them operational again. Do any of you have any recomendations of what the issue could be. Thank you so much in advance.

Yellow light at power on means battery is barely sufficient.

First pair of beeps at power on is normal, means the radio passed power-on self test. I can't find any info on the next tones.

Low tone when you try to transmit on Channel 4 simply means that channel is set up for receive only and is incapable of transmitting.

Two high beeps at random times means battery is dangerously low.

Without knowing exactly how the radio is programmed, it's impossible to tell anything further. But first, it needs good batteries. If they have been sitting around for a long time, they may be dying rapidly.

If you have the right charger, give each one a 16 hour charge and then see if anything changes. If that doesn't work, they need to be looked at by a competent tech who has the software and equipment to properly troubleshoot the radio. There are no other magic fixes.

As was sort of mentioned above, the fact that they're the same radio model sitting in the same location and appear to beep the same when you push the same stuff... has almost no bearing on whether or not the radios are actually programmed with the same frequencies. Step one (two if your batteries are bad) is to check the programming.
