• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Had you searched at the batboard, you would have found a thread specifically about this for the version you have.

Before you actually attempt this modification of the software, I would also encourage you to read each and every thread on that batboard about the cdm password - if you do it wrong you may not be happy with the results.

What is the purpose of setting the programming password?
I'm not trying to start a flame.
But why do vendors do a password, other than just because they can?

The Vendors want you come back to them so they can charge you more money to program your radio.

As cmdrwill said, the vendors want to make it so you have to go back to them for reprogramming.

But, beyond that, they want to prevent unauthorized reprogramming of the radio. There is a fair argument to be made that many people are programming radios who really should not be doing so, especially when it comes to Part 90 radios. Just read over some of the threads here in the various sub-forums and it becomes painfully obvious that some serious gaps exist when it comes to ability to properly program.

There's also the issue that some users (read agencies or radio shops) don't want the programming of their radios to be known by others.

The widely known password hack circumvents all this with both good and bad results.

We only password protect radios that are programmed to one of our trunking systems. Even if they own the radio, they're still paying us for airtime and we do that to prevent them from adding rougue radios without paying extra (like can be done on an LTR system). Yes, we know about the ways to get around that but they usually don't!

And remembering back a ways, in the FCC rules there is a statement that says something to the effect that 'only properly trained, licensed personal' should be programing and servicing commerical radio equipment.
