To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

CPS & Radio programming (XPR 6350 / XPR 7550)

Trying to figure out how to copy the settings from one radio to another, and having issues with the CPS software.

I have a working XPR 6350, but I am unable to even read it (using the attached USB programming cable). I have version R09.11 of the CPS software installed.

Every time I plug in the radio and attempt to red from it, I get this error:

There is no toggle switch on the cable (I believe that's the older cable?). This is the programming cable:

My goal is to copy the setting from my 6350 over to my 7550.

Do I have the correct CPS software? I have seen references to higher versions (16+?), but have been able to locate a new version on Motorola's site. Incidentally, I downloaded the version of CPS I currently have from the Motorola site.

Appreciate any help.

First you have the wrong software . Second the software is not on their regular site. You have to register with them to get a MyView account. Depending on the age of the radio you may need CPS 16 or 2.0 depending on what it was last programmed with The only thing you have correct is the cable

Thank you.

That was my guess, but could find anything to confirm.

Tried registering with Motorola, but can't find CPS 16 anywhere. I can't confirm (at the moment) what version of CPS was used to program my radio, but hopefully later this week, I'll be able to reach out to my communications dept and get some answers.

My "comms-guy" has been so slammed these past few weeks/month (he has a couple of hundred radios to deal with) as well, so my "problem" isn't exactly top of his list! I could leave this with him of course - but he might not get around to it for a couple of weeks!

From your "customer hub" go to "support services" and click "software and licenses". It'll be in there.

You're using the programming cable and CPS for the DLR and DTR series Spread Spectrum/Frequency Hopping 900 Meg ISM radios. You need the Mototrbo CPS 2 Gen 2 software and if the microphone connector is round you need the HKN6184C cable which is the same cable used for the XTL and APX series mobiles.

I did notice the programming cable was for a portable. I'm learning this XPR stuff. I just acquired a XPR5500 which is a mobile and I assumed that the 7550 was an upgraded mobile with more features or an operating band range difference. My error, sorry for the confusion.

I program my XPR mobiles thru the back connector. Never tried the mic one.
