I have one of those 4000XH radios. Works really well, & when 900’s not busy, they also do 800 MHz. But for those who need AES, there is no mace in the radio, so it’s ADP only. But in the past, I’ve used XTS2500’s for 900 P25, & they work well. There’s probably 5 900 P25 machines in the tri county area.IF, and that's a big IF, I wanted to get on 900MHz, I'd be more interested in doing it with an APX4000HXE that's been modified for 902-928MHz.
IMBE P25 digital voice runs circles around AMBE+ DMR in terms of quality. After getting a P25 repeater on the air and using it for a few months, it's hard to listen to DMR, especially the plethora of Chinese junk and hot-spots that hams are drawn to. Listened to a net not long ago, and myself and another ham were the only ones to come through on an actual IPSC repeater, everyone else was using a hot spot or MMDVM based repeater. It was painful to listen to.
Regardless, 900MHz isn't really an option where I live due to WISP use of ISM. It's a lot cheaper to use ISM than license 900MHz spectrum...
