Anybody monitor Cranford PD and FD?......I recently bought the Radio Shack pro-96, and the frequencies I have

471.60000 474.60000 WPWJ842 RM 654 DPL 1 Police APCO-25
477.50000 480.50000 WPWJ842 RM 654 DPL 2 Police APCO-25

are not working, unless I am programming them wrong...

are the frequencies correct?

thanks

Just checking. You did program the frequencies as conventional and NOT as a trunked system?

Go to Bank/channel for each frequency. Mode should be set on digital for those freqs listed as APCO-25 voice (Not FM). If FM, change to Digital.

Also, the frequencies listed under 'input' are not necessary, unless you're interested in knowing when the mobile unit is in your neighborhood. When a unit is beyond your neighborhood and transmits, you may hear broken or very noisy transmissions which you'll probably want to lock out.

The Pro-96 treats digital (conventional) and FM as the same, so try programming in 471.6000 and 477.5000 as FM and see if you hear anything. If you do, try changing the channels to DC/search. If you then hear buzzing, they're digital and you'll have to change back to FM to receive them. If you can still understand them then a DPL code should pop up (or they may be using a PL) and you can program it in.

Sorry, I can't confirm those frequencies or the modulation right now. I'll be in that area later in the week; if you're still having problems then and no one else has posted confirmation, I'll let you know what I was able to hear.

On 12/31 and 1/01 I received a police department in the Scotch Plains / Clark / Westfield area, on 471.6000 using digital (clear) with a very strong signal. I can't 100% confirm it was Cranford, but it was very likely. No traffic on 477.5000 while I was listening.

Markyk31: program in both frequencies into your Pro-96 as FM. Whether they're digital or analog/DPL, you'll receive them.

Its been several years since I have been police scanning, and I am not up to speed with the "digital age"

thanks again

If it is a full digital system then that is correct. No PL/DPL is used. If it's a mixed-mode system then you can have both digital and analog signals being used within the system.
