As a user of ARC433 and Win500 I feel really stupid right now. I bought a 668, set it up by zip code, liked it, and now want to refine what it scans. For the life of me I can't find a file to edit! Do I have to manually poke in freq's to a new file using the software? Is there something archived that I'm missing? Previous software let me import from RR and edit, can this software (the stuff on the sd card) do that?

Going by what I have read for the 668, you have to use the soft ware to go in & change stuff, from what I seen in the manual you can NOT change things manual with out the software. I was thinking of getting a 668 till I read that first, I ONLY do programing manual.

Yes you can import from the scanner, edit, and write back, or you can manually delete what you don't want to hear by using the scanner menus

Then what does this mean ?

Programming Trunking Systems/Sites (Software only) Contents
You can't program or edit trunking systems with the scanner, only the software.

muskrat39 - If I import from the scanner, where does the file wind up? Which menu do I use to find it? Thanks

You can delete talk groups from the scanner, also edit led alerts. I programmed my 668, and my 1080 by using the library mode. Selected my county, system, and site. After loading the talk groups. I browsed through and deleted the talk groups I wasn't interested in. Never even installed the software until about a month later.

Click on "Advanced", third tab. Make sure first three choices are checked. Scroll to bottom, and click on " trunked systems. At top of next screen, highlight system you want to edit. All the talk groups will appear below. Enable or disable as you like.

You can't program a system from scratch with the scanner, but you can import a system through the library option.

The zip code import is NOT the way to program this scanner. It is really only for when you are traveling into an new area and want to see what is out there. Use the software.

This isn't true. The database is on the card and you can pick and choose exactly what you want via the radio on the fly... right down to what talk groups you want. It's what makes it a great travel radio.

The software allows it to go a little faster, but i've had an 800 for years and just picked up a real cheap 668. I can't think of anything you can do in the software thay you can't do in the radio.

Entering a non-database frequency using just the radio can even be done once you learn the tricks... in this case using s form of search & store..

The only thing I have used the software for is backing up my configuration, and updating the firmware, on both the 668, and 1080

I've been using the software last few days and it works great. However, I like tweaking and customizing all of my alpha tags so what I do is create a troubled system using the library function but then I just manually edit the alphas since they're all truncated to 12 characters right out of the library.
