are there any electrical supply stores in the area. I found mine ,in Memphis. Besides the crimper, you have to buy the dies you want. Possibly have to drive to KC

Not sure if this will do what you want, but just in case...

Store: Radio Shack in Leavenworth City, KS
Code:
http://www.radioshack.com/store?StoreID=018572

Product: Hex Crimping Tool (Model: 278-238 / Catalog #: 2780238)
Code:
http://www.radioshack.com/hex-crimping-tool/2780238.html

Quoted Description: "This cushion-handled tool crimps the proper coax connector onto almost any coax cable, including RG-58, RG-59, RG-6 and RG-6QS coaxial cable. Crimps all three main types of coax connectors—“F," BNC and PL-259. Also crimps tip connectors. " -- RadioShack.com

Edit: The above links are listed in their own "code" boxes so you can copy-paste them into your browser, because RR's "link-interpreter" would not correctly jump to the target page when the links were made click-able active links.

Hope this helps,

some of the dies have the holes that crimp the bnc pins. Some of the crimpers havbe interchangable dies that allow rg8 rg8x, the blue red yellow pin crimpers, usually about $20.00 for each die.Unfortunately sometimes what you need is just another set away so you end up collecting dies. Or the dies you get only fit one brand of crimpers.

Pretty sure any crimp tool you buy at Radio Shack will be a POS. What's wrong with buying on line?

I understand the general sentiment and share your caution.

Having said that, I'll also clarify that I've used the one I mentioned above with no problems, over almost twenty years. It seems to be good quality.

Buying on line is ok if you cant find it some where locally, But if I can buy it locally I will do that, it's quicker & if you need to return it, it's easier. And buying on line lot of times the S&H is more than what the product cost. Thanks for the replys

" ... oddly enough, Amazon has lots of coax crimpers ... "
Amazon.com: coax crimpers

Back in Dec, 2011, I purchased:

Coax Compression Connector Crimp Tool for RG58 RG59 RG6 F type Compression Connectors - Crimpers - Amazon.com

and

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JNNWQ2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EKCGT8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

along with several multi-packs of various connector tips/ends(?), and a hundred feet each of a few of different "breeds" of coax cable.

I had never crimped a connector before in my life and it turned out that I was not very good at it. Nearly all of my crimping activity was related to the antenna feeds for several scanners. The above equipment was not the fault, it was my mental and physical incompetence with the category (electronics).

But (not luckily), I had an ace-in-the-hole. An ace that I saw coming when I knew the EXTREME Option for the HP-1 Scanner was becoming available. I foresaw before actually acquiring the EXTREME Option , that the "Analyzer Functions" could possibly determine antenna quality. As it turned out, the "Analyzer Functions" could better be described as determining the "overall" quality of the signal at it's entry into the scanner, the antenna only being one factor.

Bad crimps, along with differences in antenna, cables, connectors, multicast "sites", etc., were determined in short order by the "Analyzer Functions". I won't go into the complex details now, as I did that at considerable length back in 2012. My reports were not favorably received here in the RR Forums (except by a very small group), and these poor receptions caused me to take a 18 month hiatus from even signing on to the RR Site.

Anyway, I fully support online purchasing (99% of mine is with AMAZON), and I create AMAZON "wish lists" so that I combine purchases to get the "free shipping" promotion. And, I want to emphasize once again, that (based upon the factors stated above) the EXTREME Option of the HP-1 has allowed me to successfully monitor the RWC (trunked, digital, simulcast) System and cure me of several years of scanner depression, lol.

I my self am not an expert on connectors & cables, but when I watched the video from Gem Electronics,
I found that I have been very lucky for what I have been doing in making good choices on connectors & cables. I have been soldering all my cables & connectors together, but now after watching those video's, I may do it the video way with a crimping tool. Have a good day.
