Or did they finally switch to P25?

I haven't had to touch my broadcast in years, so I haven't kept up with anything and can't remember how to find out?

According to the RR data base, Crowley county is on the State P 25 system. Also shows non-encrypted unless it has recently went underground like everyone else along the front range.

The scanner I was using is a BCD396XT and if I remember right it won't pick up P25 broadcasts. Snagged a 436HP and I'll see if that takes care of my issues. Weird thing is, the EMS and Fire are still using the "old" version, whatever that might be.

BCD396XT will pick up P25. It will also pick up Phase 1 and Phase 2. The BCD396T will only do Phase 1

It had been a while, but I thought the XT wouldn't do the latest Phase II.

They have to be encrypted because I didn't hear a peep out of them all day. Bummer!

Next time you drive by the donut shop and see a patrol car go in ask the uniform. He may or may not say but it was worth a try.

I believe Crowley County has been on DTRS for a long time, but I cannot tell you if Crowley County is encrypted or not since they are a bit out of the way from where most of the folks on these forums tend to monitor. The BCD396XT will work on DTRS correctly as it is not Phase 2 yet.

You can use Pro96Com with your BCD396XT to log the Fowler site to get a confirmation of if they are encrypted. Going through that process will also help determine if you have the Fowler site and the Crowley County talkgroups programmed into your scanner. It will display a "Group (Enc)" for their talkgroups. Sharing that confirmation here would be appreciated as we will be able to update the database with this information.

I'll see if I can't do that this week, Spitfire.

Just noticed I spelled encrypted wrong in the title of the post. Can't seem to edit that.

Well, I hope that I am doing it right with the Pro96Com software. Supposedly I have it setup to update to this site. Stayed on Fowler for 30 minutes or so and am now on the Ark Valley site.

Guessing they switched their dispatch to their other TG based on the screenshots?

I'm not sure on that.

What I did find out is why they went encrypted. The voluntary FD crew all have radios that were programmed to pick up the dispatch on all of the frequencies. The sheriff was out on a case that involved a VFD person and he heard the radio in the background.
