@timkilbride if you want I have a 4-bay folded dipole phased antenna I could loan you for a bit. It's just sitting under my deck at the moment. I will take a picture and see if you would like to borrow it.

The antenna has a MALE N connector and is fairly good sized (4 foot aprox) but it has some killer gain.

After this posting I'm going buzz over to Menards and pick me up a chunk of copper pipe and build one(460MHz) tonight. With the left over, I'm going to try to build a 800MHz. Thanks for the offer though, your right about the killer gain on the antenna!

Please don't put in Marion Info that is just junk 27's and 28's with a stupid printer in the background and it isn't even Marion, more like Area 11 1027 -28's. I hate that chan, can you tell :)
Also Aircare Dispatch is a no go here as they use Racom and I have never picked up anything on local dispatch. I did in Waterloo years ago but never here. You might want to put in EMS-2 they dispatch and talk to the ground(CMed and local ground) so it is ok as they also do pt reports on that freq for the non 800 freg Adam units.

The channel with all the 27/28's is actually the "LINK" frequency to Linn Co F4(155.610). I don't hear much on the Marion PD F2(Info). Also, someone has fixed the IDer on AREA 11.

Yeah I hooked it up to my HT earlier and was able to transmit into the ham radio repeater in Palo (443.8) with 100mw of power. That's sitting on the ground. Using the scanner antenna I've got on my tower (35' up) it takes me 3W even to get to that repeater.

No I don't think I've ever made a QSO through that repeater. Call is KC0AKY.

Ah, ok. I have only two different guys on it and I recall the one mentioning about monitoring CRPD.

Anyways, I got my UHF antenna built and installed in the attic this evening. So the Marion is feed is running with a true UHF antenna now.

There's some agency up NE Iowa that shares a frequency with Marion/LCSO LINK channel or is close, or has something going on with it... the agency escapes me right now but I want to say Manchester... That's a lot of that extra traffic. It took a LOT of listening for me over the years to figure out where it was coming from.

I think its Mitchell county. I'm not sure how the link is setup, does the link RX 155.61 or 155.91? If the Mitchell county dispatcher is TXing on whatever the Marion link is listening for(either of the two above), I can understand how they are getting in.

Same goes with AREA 11, the input frequency and tone is the same input frequency as Pocahontas County. So Pocahontas is ker-chunking AREA 11 all day.

I haven't really looked into any of this in a long time, I rarely listen to MPD anymore since I moved. But, I also just found that Marion County SO "Information" shares 155.610 with Linn Co SO F4... The database indicates no PL on Marion County's...

EDIT: I also found that O'Brien county uses 155.610 as Base only (no input, no PL). And now that I see that, I remember that 155.610 or 155.310 is the Base side for some counties in Iowa that still use the old INFO channel. I know here in Tama county, we still have INFO in all our radios with no PL as the receive, and 155.910 as the transmit with no PL for our mobiles. Just looking through the database, pretty much a lot counties in Iowa still have it in use for some capacity, but I can't find one that transmits a PL... What sucks is, whoever it is uses 3-digit badge numbers for their officers. It would be nice if they used the county numbering system so we could figure it out...

There were a handful of Base side frequencies. 155.25, 155.52, 155.535 come to mind. I know Calhoun, Pocahontas, Buena Vista, and Sac counties were all licensed for 155.250. There were about 5-7 different frequencies through out the state. 155.610 was/is not statewide. 155.910 was/is the mobile to base statewide. I believe the radio plan called for the mobile to TX a PL tone and the bases were to be CSQ. Then there is the "Ops" radio plan. . . .

I believe that is right Rick. Charles City is where a lot of the RO's come back to.

KC0JAR- Johnson county uses 167.9 PL on 155.250 TX, there information channel. The mobile on 155.910 also have a 167.9 PL tone.

My internet line with ImOn was cut last night at midnight and my service didn't failover to my backup provider. It actually crashed my dual WAN router for some reason. Anyway, I'm working on that now, but I got it switched to the other provider now for the time being so please let me know if you have any issues. Sorry for the outage.

Well, I for one enjoy listening to the Marion feed very much. I was a police officer there for many years.

They do mention Manchester all the time on it.

Anyone within radio range of the link radio is going to come across. The link radio is set to RX 155.610(192.8). The antenna is probably mounted fairly high to be hearing all this traffic.

So are you the one who gave me a ticket for 26 in a 25 zone? Even though vehicle speedometers only show 5 MPH increments? I have not shopped in or even driven through Marion for at least 4 years now. :)

I don't think so.... were you even driving in the early 70's? ;-)
I was always in trouble for being the lowest in the department for writing traffic summons. Just didn't like that part of the job at all....

Nope, my parents weren't even out of highschool then! Born in '82

I understand it is part of the job and all, and I wouldn't have thought much of it had I been, you know, not watching my speed and riding my breaks through downtown. But 1MPH over??? I figured that was a bit excessive. I was even in 1st gear with my foot on the clutch and the break! :)
