Hey Bill, just got off the Carnival Conquest and my wife finally let me bring the scanner. Unfortunately I didn't spend much time using it, only brought it on deck once and that was while listening to the Cayman Island trunk. She was pretty tolerant of it but after the night we were late to the show because I was listening I had to take it easy!! =)
I used your site (
Cruise Ship & Maritime Frequencies) plus some of the other 400 MHz possibilities you suggested in other threads on RR to program it. Here is what I found (I scanned all these CSQ and didn't think to set then to tone search so I'm no help with that):
Ch. 1 - was active, heard radio checks with all department heads right as we set sail.
Ch. 2 - was active but didn't hear enough to determine a usage
Ch. 3 - Sounded like security to me.
Paging - heard occasional digital noise on both
I also heard very brief key-ups on the first Hotel Ops, Supplies and Shore Excursions.
At one point I also thought it sounded like a different conversation on the listed Ch. 1 input frequency than the output, but I stupidly had the scanner programmed wrong where it made it hard to flip back and forth. I also never ran a straight-up search through the 400s.
While waiting to re-board in Cozumel I saw one of the security officer's radio had a large "72" displayed on the side LCD. Think that was a marine channel? As others have mentioned I saw lots of the crew using the phone system and not radios.
Chances are that was my last cruise on the Conquest (it is leaving for New Orleans next year and being replaced by the Magic) but I'll probably go out on the Ecstasy before it swaps ports with the Triumph and will report back.
