OK, tried a catchy title. Actually, purchased a dmr upgrade for my sds100 yesterday. Would love to cancel activation with full refund. Too much time/work involved to hear anything. New Fav list here, do this there, search this, record that. Are you frickin kidding me! Slot this, color code that, LCN needed here but not there, LSN maybe, single, trunked, conventional....... and whatever else they've come up with.
Bad costly mistake on my end. Don't have the hours involved to do this.
Can't I just insert a crystal????

No there are no crystals to put into new scanners, you need to spend some time and read the manual and read some post on this site and you will find everything you need.

Totally understand. However, there is no "one" post that explains it from start to finish. Lots of "do" this then "that". Followed the videos from digitalfrequencysearch that puts all kinds of systems in a conventional mode. But that's where it ends. I swear, if I ever figure this out, I will do my part to fix this! Until then, noises a baby would make (googoo gaga).

I’ll give you $100 for the scanner with DMR, you pay shipping, and I’ll throw in a 50 year old scanner that takes crystals.
Generous offer $100 over suggested retail price w/upgrade. Yes, I will pay shipping.
Gotta love a running joke.

If you've gotta have crystals, duct tape a couple to the back. You can tell folks it's a backup.

To bad I've had too many crystals fail over time. However, loved the early programmable scanners.

What's a crystal? ON the TV show "Mom", one of the lead characters jokingly said "operators are standing by". Her son asked, "What's an operator?" Glue some Swarovski crystals on the front to improve reception. It will be received well by many females loving blingy things.

So sad people not willing to put forth any work to get what they want. You can put that on a wish list and see if the current administration is willing to give it away for free.
Not shy of work but don't understand ALL that's involved. Not comprehending ALL the different types of systems one needs to identify.

Its not hard if you choose to do it.
I have seen new users never used a scanner before that could be lead to have a working system.
I guess you were born knowing how to hunt deer shoot a gun.
Color = Squelch Code
Slot 1 or 2
Talkgroup = User
LCN = Map to where talkgroup is

This was my favorite, had two of them.

In all seriousness poster I do agree with you. It's pretty hard to understand but is getting more popular in ham radio and more public service DMR systems are popping up. Just like everything else it is just a matter of focusing on it and reading a lot.

I did kind of enjoyed things a lot more back when I was a kid in the 60s using slide rule tunable monitors and Crystal control radios came out. We were also working on landing on the moon. Listening to 4 frequencies at one time on a single radio with those flashing lights! Space Age.

But anyway, looking for proper guidance. I have all these businesses loaded for DMR with different types of systems. 97 percent not needed so I deleted what's not pertinent. Do I - make individual fav lists for each then search accordingly or do as a whole?

if you tape 2 crystals together and cover it in aluminum foil and a torrid you can receive encrypted signals from your microwave, don't ask me if i've tried this.
