"In addition to the petroleum, the tracks were littered with boxes of Carlo Rossi wine."
YYYEEEHAAAAAAA!!!!!!
"Access to the crash site was limited. Santa Rosa deputies manned a security checkpoint near the end of Bach Drive to keep onlookers away from dangerous heavy equipment and machinery."
Uuuuuuu huuuuuuh.
Short story;
Once upon a time I heard of a wreck not far from me next to a university (note that) so I strapped on the 2M portable, tossed the base scanner in the car and plugged in the bullhorn I normally used on the ham rig. I pulled up on scene with local police calls blaring forth, hopped out wearing flannel shirt and jeans, coincidentally typical freight railroader's garb and started a conversation with a cop guarding the scene. Before long he asked how I got their "secret channel" to which I replied "We have our ways... and would you please mind my car?" and walked right past him toward the wreck leaving him with the scanner to listen to and a puzzled look on his face.
Now here's where the school comes in. The train was loaded with BEER straight out of Anheuser Busch in Newark (NJ) and it was all over the place. Oh those poor kids, couldn't get anywhere near it. Oh well, I guess you just have to deploy the right equipment and tactics. Hey, when did I say I was a cop OR a railroad employee? I just leave that to the imagination!
