CTCSS/DCS & NAC decode update?

What is the possibility that Uniden will release an update for the 996XT so that it can detect, decode & display the CTCSS/DCS & NAC at the same time? By this I mean without having to go to the menu and select which one the user wants the radio to decode, CTCSS/DCS or NAC. This would be so helpful especially when in frequency search mode but in scan mode as well. Then, with an ability already provided by the radio, when the CTCSS/DCS or NAC is found it can then be matched up to the frequency by pressing the "E/yes" button.

Is this particular model radio even physically capable of having such an upgrade? When the 996XT was in alpha/beta production didn't anyone notice this shortcoming?

I like the Uniden line of radios specifically the 996XT which I've already purchased.

I don't think that they think of it as short coming. If you do, then that's up to you. Nor do I think that every feature that someone doesn't like is a "bug" that needs a software upgrade. I ran an IT project for five years (one far more complex than a scanner) and was constantly being bombarded with requests to have the developer change things to make the software work the way that particular individual wanted. Some important things could be changed, but if someone didn't like the fact that you had to use handwriting recognition software instead of Palm Graffiti we couldn't change that. Same with scanners. There are some features I don't like on the DMA scanners, but then again there are some that I don't like on the GRE OOS scanners too. That's why I don't own any GRE scanners, but do own Uniden scanners.

It'll never happen. Uniden didn't design the CTCSS/DCS decoder properly. That is, you can do either P25 decode OR CTCSS/DCS search. This is because they're using the DSP that normally does the P25 to decode the CTCSS/DCS. Severe limitation.
