I made the mistake of watching YT video about SDR and am really curious to try it. The dollar value barrier to entry seems very reasonable. I'd plan to purchase the RTL-SDR. My Googling seems to indicate that SDR++ is Macintosh compatible but it also looks like it runs from a Command Line prompt, or at least needs a prompt to download the software package. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I'd like to know if there's a better/simpler software interface for that dongle that doesn't involve a complicated download process.

My goal is to be able to poke around, listen to different things. Nothing complicated, purely entry level.

Thank you.

I managed to install SDR++ onto a Macbook (2017 12") a few years ago.
That was the only compatible app I could find.
I recall it needs some permissions from the MacOS but they were apparent to me and it loaded up.
Don't remember the details.
I've since upgraded the SDR++ version and the Macbook is now an M4 13".
Works great with my AirSpy HF+ Discovery.
I'm a very old man who struggles with the GitHub thing so it's doable by anyone I reckon.
Groups.io also has an excellent SDR forum as well.

Pretty sure SDR-Trunk also works on MacOS. May be cpu architecture specific versions…
