Can anyone advise me of this system:

Will this replace all Conventional frequencies? Will LAW and Fire units be joining this gradually over time? When I was down there few weeks ago didn't come across this system I was monitoring fire on Conventional frequencies.

Yes. It’s been on air since June, only active users are school buses right now, which started using last week

Any ideas on any TG's yet? I'm not from there but I do travel to there a few times a year, may end up in the area if things were to ever work out. (or somewhere in NC out that way).

Thank you I was wondering. I couldn’t listen on the other frequencies. Glad I found this website.

I was in Currituck a few weeks ago. Very little listening activity unless EMS / Fire is called out. Virtually no active business (DMR / NXDN) either. The Barco tower and Elizabeth City tower carry VIPER (Pasquotank and Camden).

I stay in Manteo and go there a lot to my parents and I don’t hear much for Currituck on Viper. I thought someone happened to my scanner when I couldn’t get Currituck the last couple of weeks just thought they were slow.

No, Currituck is not on VIPER.

Simply discussing the lack of local radio there and that there are VIPER towers located Barco & Elizabeth City.

Someone in Dare County told me they had to for a little bit because service was bad in the fire stations with a signal but then went back to the conv. I just found out joining here they are on trunking now.

We actually only use VIPER if our county system goes down....it's basically a backup we only use if we have no alternative.

They are called a "Secondary User" of VIPER like the majority of VIPER users. a "Primary User" of VIPER would be Orange County and the like that uses VIPER for their day to day communications in place of their own system.

Yes, for whatever reason years ago when we switched from VHF and UHF to 800 mhz, they opted to put in our own system instead of utilizing VIPER. Still don't really understand why, all of our neighbors are using VIPER except Dare.

We only went to a trunked system about a month ago. And they chose not to purchase TDMA for the system.....all of our portables that weren't TDMA capable were upgraded with the entitlement because of the pending switch to all TDMA for VIPER, but Currituck's P25 system is only FDMA.
