I've got some older crystal scanners (Regency Monitoradio, Realistic Patrolman, etc.) that I've acquired over the years. They work great, but the crystals that came with them aren't active any more. I do most of my serious listening with my RS Pro-96's but there's just something inherently cool about these old crystal scanners. Anyway, I happened to be on Ebay last night and came across this listing. The seller says that you can pick any frequency and they'll make a crystal for it and guarantee it to work.

I'm not wanting very many crystals, just enough to have 1-2 active analog frequencies in each crystal scanner.

Anyone ever bought any crystals from this seller?

Sounds like a pretty good deal if, as you say, the crystals work. Are you saying that the crystals that came with the scanners are bad or that those channels are no longer used? A few years ago there were several companies making crystals for scanners with 10.7 MHz IF's, even a few that would supply the ones for Bearcat's 10.8 MHz IF. A few might still be around, Google scanner crystals.

You can also find used crystals on eBay by entering either:
Crystal 10.7 MHz or
Crystal 10.8 MHz
....in the search box

You can also put the desired receive frequency in the search box. Most sellers put 4 digits to the right of the decimal point, so if you want a 154.86 MHz crystal, put 154.8600 in the search box.

The crystals that came with the scanners work fine, they just don't pick anything up since the scanners were set up for a different area than mine.

I will check out the other links provided. There's one guy selling them for $3 each and even has 146.88mhz, which is a local ham repeater near here and also a frequency I was hoping to put on one of these scanners.

I've purchased custom-made crystals from that particular Ebay seller. They work fine, no problems to report, and he is what he says he is. I would recommend him and use him again. If fact, I'm going to order 4-more next week.

The only downfall is = he says to allow up to 30-days - and he means it. As long as you purchase from him and expect this delay in getting your custom crystals, then all is fine. The regular crystals that i've ordered from him came in a few days later.

Please keep in mind, he lists separate Custom Crystal auctions for 10.7 and 10.8 IF's. Make sure you order the correct type for your scanner.

If you hit the local hamfests, and check the "junk boxes" on the tables that are full of parts, you'll often find scanner (and rockbound transceiver) crystals for your area.
