Speaking of antennas for camping or travel, here is my go to setup for 2m/440 amateur or VHF/UHF/700/800/900 scanning. I had a couple of military portable VHF airband antennas model AB-1157/USQ and modified the mounts with NMO adapters and cut down the radials to about 20” to better cover 2m/70cm amateur and commercial VHF/UHF.
This makes a super portable antenna that stands 27” tall assembled and 13” stowed with good performance on the 2m/70cm bands or the full 136-174, 380-512 and 750-960MHz bands for scanning depending on which NMO antenna I use.
