• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have 2 AT-D578UV-II's, one at home and the other in the car. The car radio (FW 2.07) is connected to the ignition and so comes on with the ignition. At seemingly random times upon booting it will display:

578msg.jpg

At first I thought it may have been related to the GPS so I turned that feature off in the menu but the message still appears from time to time.

I press "Confirm" and the radio then boots normally and works fine. (I don't bother actually setting the time and sate as it doesn't matter to me and I don't use APRS etc.)

My home radio (FW 2.06) does not do this and is turned on and off with the power supply probably as much as the car radio. The only other difference I see is that the GPS is not connected.

Has anyone else seen this and have an idea what to do to prevent it?

This is most frustrating when using the BT-01 remote mic with the radio mounted in an inconvenient spot in the car!

I have an older 578 that goes without power for months and never prompts for the date/time. I had a new 578 (about a year old now) that always had this issue. I replaced the battery that is soldered on to the PCB (http://anytonetechzone.byethost7.com/578techmods.htm?i=1#BackupBatteries) and it didn't make any difference. If the radio went without power for a few days, the clock was lost.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago - I sold a friend the "new 578" mentioned above and bought another new one, hoping it might solve the issue. Same problem. I haven't taken the new one apart to see if it still has the two batteries. Someone mentioned to me that new 578s went to a capacitor only, which would explain the short duration of the clock retention, but this certainly wasn't the case in my last one.

Someone mentioned a firmware updating solving this issue for them on an older model: 578 resetting and not booting.

I'm running the latest and no luck. I don't even care if it keeps the time, but blocking the radio from actually booting is a show stopper.
