• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We had our local 2M net last night. Usually I use my IC-7100 for it but I was not getting any transmitted audio from it, I suspect due to settings from FT-8 use so I decided to use the AnyTone D578UVIII instead, it has always worked fine before.

Lo and behold, no audio from this radio as well! What are the odds of two different brand/model radios suddenly losing TX audio at the same time?

I eventually figured out the issue on the Icom but now I needed to diddle with the AT. I swapped out the mic with the one from the car radio, no dice. Both mics worked fine on the car radio, neither on the base radio.

I couldn't find any menu setting that could have caused it. So I did the total reset and restore process. I erased the radio, tested it and it worked fine. I restored my last codeplug from about a month ago and it was working just fine.

I suspect this was related to another minor annoyance I had with this radio before the audio crapped out. There was a little beep going out as I unkeyed the mic. If I was listening on another radio I would hear it, and several guys mentioned it to me on nets etc. I don't think it was any sort of "Roger Beep", there was no menu item for it in the radio or the CPS. If there was I would have turned it off. The car radio did not do this but that is a slightly newer radio. After the reset that beep went away.

I do like the 578 as well as the 878 portables but I need to remember that they are still CCR's and are prone to weirdities like this. AT has become extremely popular, at least around here. They have a much better reputation than Baofeng etc. but one still has to remember their heritage.
