Dallas has three helicopters; 2 Bell 206 JetRangers (N1510L, N1511L) and a Bell 407 (N7160DP). I track them on ADS-B Exchange.

Some selected photos from here

In addition to the Technisonic control system, they have some Harris stuff that supported some of the old Provoice stuff down in SA and even a scanner or two.

Looks like there are 5 radios in that chassis. That particular model will hold upto 6 Motorola portables, hence there being Harris radios outboard from the Technisonic radio.

Technisonic radios are capable of P25 conventional/phase 1/2 trunking and Motorola Type 2/Type 2 CAI.

Technisonic directly interfaces with APX portables, and they are the only company they have done so with. NXDN, DMR, TETRA and Harris L3 radios must be interfaced to the audio panel and each be air worthy certified

Any idea how much these are? I seriously wouldn’t mind having one of these at home.

Just checked and they start at about 50k. One of the US Distributors is Dallas Avionics near me. Interesting (taps fingers together like Mr Burns…)

For those that did not already know this, the Bell 407 was donated to the city by Ross Perot, Jr.

I forget exactly where I saw this, but there were comments that the city wanted to purchase a new helicopter. Presumably, I suppose, a replacement for one (or both?) of the aged 206 Jet Rangers. No idea if that made it into the new budget (effective this past October 1st), or it's still on a 'wish list' for a future, unspecified, date.

When DPD's copter is up, they usually fly more or less over my house going to & from their base. I'm to the northeast of their base at Dallas Executive Airport, the replacement name for the Red Bird airport. I follow them, as well as the CareFlite birds, on Flightradar24.

All depends on the flash code of the APX portable(s) and how many you get. One particular model will hold up to 6 APX8000 portables. Figure what a loaded APX8000 is and multiple that by 6... I'm guessing these can run north of 100k.

They are not really a 'home' radio. They use portable radios for their RF. Due to airborne LMR power restrictions, they don't put out any more than the APX portables rated power. VHF @ 6w, UHF @ 5w 700MHz @ 2.5w and 800MHz @ 3w if memory serves me right. The VHF-Lo and VHF-Hi forestry radios may be a bit more power(maybe 10w? but I haven't looked at specs for them). They are also meant to be interfaced to aircraft audio panels and utilize aircraft headsets.
