DART and TRE

Does anyone have any clue where DART and DART Police are operating now? Are they still on the OpenSky system? I see that they have a P25 system, but I have yet to catch any activity, unless DART PD is encrypted? Also does anyone have any idea where TRE and TEXRail radio operations occur?

I have never heard activity on the DART P25 system. I ran Unitrunker on it a couple of years ago and logged zero affiliations.

PD and fare enforcement are most likely still on Opensky. Can confirm the portables are Harris Opensky-capable.

Trinity Railway Express uses 161.040 simplex for operations and TEXRail uses 160.950 simplex over their route.

Officially, DART PD uses the P25 system. I'll see if I can't pick it up via Unitrunker this afternoon (I work in Richardson).

I have DART P25 on a BCD996P2 and logging with FreeScan. Once a month i might get a key up or two.
About 2 months ago i logged several hundred conversations that lasted about 10 hours. Nothing since.
So Officially DART does not use the P25 system, at least not in the sense of it being used on a daily basis.

I have heard more Dart PD traffic on the LAW channels on the GMRS system then i have heard any traffic on the Dart P25 system.

Interesting. They were making a big deal about their BDA system at headquarters and PD covering it a few years back. Set it up with Unitrunker...will watch and see what happens. 5 minutes in...no affiliations, no control channel traffic. Doesn't even appear that a console is connected to the thing.

Keep monitoring it on trunker. Its way more official then me using a scanner with freescan and logging hits.
I want to say i have seen a few hits around the 15th of the month.

I left it running when I left the office at 1530. Saw a denied registration from an ID that aligned with GMRS (since the two control channels are so close I've been monitoring both simultaneously on a single RTL). I am starting to think 902 may be more active at this point.

Will keep it running for the next day or so and see what happens.

IMO, humble as it is, DART set up the P25 systems to justify their taking of federal grant money. No P25 = no grant money. Now, assuming they really do have them set up for interop, perhaps P25 users can log into them then talkgroups from the P25 sites are patched over to opensky channels. That is possible. However, I've never seen any traffic whatsoever on the DART P25 systems in all the years they've been set up. Perhaps, a drill or some thing is in order to prove their usefullness, besides the obvious financial reasons. Your tax dollars at work - in typical fashion.

I recently heard dart PD doing radio checks on GMRS Law call. That was a few weeks ago. But your probably hitting the nail on the head with the whole hey lets put up a P25 system so we can keep our federal grant. Im sure one day it will make sense.
