Descripton from the manual

Using Vehicle Battery Power
You can power the scanner from a vehicleʼs 12V power source
(such as cigarette-lighter socket) using a 9VDC at least 500-mA
adaptor with 4.75mm outer/1.7mm inner plug. Its center tip must
be set to positive and its plug must fit the scannerʼs PWR DC 9V
jack. Using an adaptor that does not meet these specifications
could damage the scanner or the adaptor.

Anyone got any suggestions on something that is working for you ?
Hopefully a Radio Shack item number that I can pick up during lunch today.

Thanks

Steve

A simple search on RadioShack.com returned this:

Got that, but the RS description fails to mention part of the GRE requirements.

I have no experience with car cables other than with cel phones and
I usually just buy the manufacturer cable. Perhaps all DC 12v adaptors
are 4.75/1.7 with center tip positive. I just don't know and don't
want to risk my $500 scanner to learn. Thats why I thought I'd
ask. Are you using this RS cable ?

A number of automotive adapters carry multiple plugs, and you just attach the one that fits your device. I've been using one from Wal-Mart that's treated me pretty well. It plugs in to your lighter, you set a switch for the desired output voltage, and attach the plug that best fits your device. And AFAIK, cheaper than Radio Shack.

Steve, that part # from RS does meet your specs, just add a 273-1706(free with purchase of the 273-1863) to it.

I bought the Radio Shack. For the sake of those who may stumble on this thread later, let me state that the adaptaplug can be
snapped on backwards as well as forwards. This would reverse the tip polarity. Good thing I happened to read the package.
