Hello all! Just received mine yesterday, did some quick review of manual, and when I try to load V-scanner folder 6(I live in Orange County, Ca), the talk groups for VS 2 are scanned!!(from Florida). When I try to load a couple other of folders, like Texas, or Az, they load up fine! IS it me, or is the scanner defective? In addition, when I enter a couple of LAPD frequencies, manual states that on pushing "scan" button, it should scan the conventional frequencies automatically.. well, my unit scans the loaded V folder in addition to the entered manual conventional frequencies, and if I disable the entered V-folder completely(like disabling all the Florida systems which I did NOT load up, wanted folder 6 instead), it won't scan anything! So, wondering if you guys have had the same problem, or should I return unit to Grove for another one? Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance.

Take a look at the DSP version number. If it is 0.1 (not 1.0) this could explain the problem. The 0.1 DSP beta firmware update jumbled up the V-Folder numbers.

You can find the firmware versions by pressing the '3' key while the power on welcome screen is being displayed.

GRE has updated both the DSP and CPU firmware. The latest (available from GREamerica.com/support) is 0.3 for the DSP and 0.2 for the CPU. Both are 'beta' versions to fix some P25 decode and other tracking issues.

That doesn't sound right. Your sure you loaded V-Scanner 6?

PGM, FUNC, PGM, F1 (LOAD), press the down arrow until you see 06: VS06, F3 (YES), wait for it to load, then press the SCAN key.

If it just came from Grove it should have CPU/DSP 1.0.

Dave,

I agree, it should be 1.0 all around. But if he did load it right, that sounds like the problem others had with the 0.1 DSP.

Wow! quick replies! Appreciate your comments! Yes, the DSP version is 1.0, and I just tried loading VS6, and the Hillsborough/Sarasota systems come back up!(which is Florida, VS2). I tried loading VS 20, and no problem it took it well. I really believe I have a lemon, or tangerine here. Even when I try to scan a couple of conventional frequencies, and I press "scan", it goes right to the trunked system, not the manual conventional ones. Maybe I got an avocado instead! appreciate any other ideas, otherwise, this little one may be heading back to GROVE for a replacement version. thanks again in advance!

Be careful about too quickly assuming that. See Grove's web site.
I don't know if they're doing this with beta or production only, but according to

http://www.grove-ent.com/grepage.html

"GRE has just announced that on November 13 they will have available on their website a free download of their latest PSR500 firmware.
Units being shipped from Grove prior to this date will include instructions on downloading from that website. A link to the download will be provided here when we receive it.

For units shipped after November 13, customers will have the option of downloading it themselves or authorizing us to open the packaged unit and install, as a free service, the latest software before shipment."

Another option is to download Win500 or PSREdit and the V-scanner files. You could reload them into the radio (or just the one you need) and see if it works. the V-scanner files are also on the CDROM that came with the radio.

You could also use the demo software that comes on the CD with the radio to upload the preload data into working memory...

Understood, however he mentioned that the radio did indeed have DSP/CPU firmware 1.0. When turning the radio on and pressing the "3" button during the welcome screen you can see what version of firmware you have.

thanks for info guys! I am working all day today(no, not on the radio..), so have no time to peruse the manual.. could someone inform me briefly how I could upload the v-folders on the included CD onto the radio? found the v-folders last night on the CD, but due to lateness of night, didn't go further to see how to do that. I did install the driver onto the PC cable, so I believe I am ready to go. If able to download the "missing" v-folder 6, and radio works OK, then I take back comment that my unit is a lemon, tangerine, avocado, or otherwise piece of fruit. thanks.!

On the CD is a demo program that allows you to remote control the radio. That program also contains an option to upload a .bin file to the radio. Run that program, set the correct port, and then choose the start button. Then choose the Send to PC/IF button, select the VS_06.bin file and upload it to the scanner. This will put the file in working memory.

The demo app doesn't upload directly to the V-Scanner location, but you could use either PSREdit or Win500 to do that if you wanted to.
