Police arrested two suspects in a drive-by shooting in which the pair allegedly fired guns close to where police were investigating a fight across the street from Denver University, authorities say.
Police chased the fleeing car involved in the drive-by and intentionally caused an accident to stop the vehicle at 3:51 a.m. The suspects were later caught following a stand-off in a residential neighborhood.
Police additionally arrested several other suspects connected to an initial fight that may have led to the drive-by shooting, according to Det. John White, Denver police spokesman.
Police responded to a confrontation near the Pita Jungle restaurant near DU on the 2200 block of South University Boulevard at 3:51 a.m., according to White.
While officers were interviewing suspects in the fight, a car with two people inside drove by and shots were fired, striking a building near the officers and suspects, he said.
"We're not saying they were shooting at the police officers," White said.
However, the shooting is under investigation, he said.
Police chased the suspects and performed a "pit maneuver" near South Dexter and East Girard streets in which the patrol car rammed into the fleeing vehicle and forced it to stop, White said.
The two suspects jumped out of the car and ran away, he said.
Police set up a perimeter and K-9 units and SWAT team members searched for the suspects, he said.
Police arrested the two suspects shortly afterward, White said.
None of the police officers fired their guns, he said.
