Does anyone have any details about a repeater (675) in this area? There is one active but I can’t find anything about it online. Thanks.
Are you talking about the SCENIC CITY 675 in Iowa Falls, IA? If so, it is listed at:Does anyone have any details about a repeater (675) in this area? There is one active but I can’t find anything about it online. Thanks.
Thanks, but no. I meant by the title that it was just Des Moines local. Someone has pointed out that it's a Skywarn repeater which seems to use a 'typical' input code of 141.3. I still don't know who owns or maintains it or if it requires permission. Making progress. Are you talking about the SCENIC CITY 675 in Iowa Falls, IA? If so, it is listed at:

If it is a SkyWarn repeater, could it be a ham (Amateur Radio) repeater instead of GMRS?<snip> Someone has pointed out that it's a Skywarn repeater which seems to use a 'typical' input code of 141.3. <snip>

I'll see if I can figure that out. Pleasant Hill isn't that far away, so if the repeater antenna has some height, it could very well be.Maybe this repeater ?

Thanks.....I wasn't aware of the history. 141.3 did work to key up the repeater, so I'll give it a go with my callsign and see. Now that I finally have 'SCAN' working (after a RESTORE), I've picked up a couple more repeaters within range of me..675 with a 141.3Hz PL tone was the old standard REACT/Travelers assistance setup. Idea at one time was that having a common repeater pair/PL tone for travelers assistance was a good idea. With REACT essentially gone, that frequency/tone setup is still a generally agreed upon standard for open repeaters. No one who understood the reasons behind it would set up a closed repeater on that frequency/tone.
In other words, if you have your GMRS license, give a call on the repeater. No one running that pair/tone should be upset if someone uninvited showed up.
As for SkyWarn, while they may use the same PL tone, it's likely a coincidence. Not really any correlation between the two.
Thanks.....it's for sure on a GMRS frequency....maybe it's an informal SKYWARN? I'll see what happens the next time we get some interesting weather. If it is a SkyWarn repeater, could it be a ham (Amateur Radio) repeater instead of GMRS?
It is indeed. With all your help and others, I did find a listing, showing the repeater as "closed" with a way to ask for permission, which I did. That was just yesterday, so I'm waiting to hear.Maybe this repeater ?

The repeater is listed as having a 'travel tone' (141.3 I assume) so that transient folk can use the repeater, yet it shows as CLOSED in the listing. Seems contradictory, but I did send a note to the owner asking permission to use it. Maybe 'closed' refers to locals using the repeater regularly without first being screened by the owner? I imagine none of this is any big deal, just that I'm the new kid on the block and trying to find my way through this. For example, even in my limited history as a Ham, I've never had to deal with a closed or permission-only Ham repeater, so this is new to me.In other words, if you have your GMRS license, give a call on the repeater. No one running that pair/tone should be upset if someone uninvited showed up.

In your example of a repeater with two different input tones, would one (or both) of those tones need to be filtered out from the output?Repeaters can run more than one tone. They may have 141.3Hz open for travel info use, and other tones for other uses.
Years and years ago I had access to a high level GMRS machine and had my own tone on the repeater. That gave my family noise free communications over a very wide area. Other users were on the system, but they all had their own tone also.

No, I inquired about permission using the contact inquiry/request on the repeaterbook site, but there has been no response. I haven't taken the position of just transmitting and trying to see what other, current users know.@drdeputy, were you successful in receiving permission? If so, how's it working?
I'm also in Des Moines and new to GMRS & HAM.
Just an update: no reply from my request still.@drdeputy, were you successful in receiving permission? If so, how's it working?
