Detroit EMS Questions

Hello. I've heard a lot of the horror stories about Detroit EMS.. I have heard that they dont have functioning AVL/GPS, but does the system have Mobile Data Terminals for informational purposes?

Also, does anyone know if the system utilizes Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) protocols to help prioritize calls?

According to this, no MDT's, I do believe they have some form of EMD.

Police/Fire/EMS response in Detroit is a crap shoot at best! Smart people avoid going into Detroit if at all possible!

The fire Response is excellent from the time the alert goes off in the firehouse, Ems & Police, you will always hear no unit avaliable, but rarely for the Fire Dept only 3 times in the past 30yrs, Devils nite 84, 83, wind storm 2010.

IS THE BEST & MOST EXPIERENCED & RESPECTED IN THE COUNTRY, we take pride in what we do and we will race from fire to fire all around the city in a timely & safe manner to protect the citizens, REMEMBER the Ems is a division of the Fire Dept and there are not enough, BUT DONT SAY NEVER EVER THAT THE FIREFIGHTING DIVISION IS SLOW AND DOSENT RESPOND, because that is totally untrue!!!!!!!

I have to second this. From 2007 to 2009 I made about 10 trips to Detroit to photograph fire scenes. I'd look up an address, and if it was more than 10 minutes away, I wouldn't even start out, because I knew that even if they went off with a dwelling going throughout, I wouldn't have anything to photograph by the time I got there. These guys see a lot, and they don't drag their feet.

My comment was not directed at the actual responders, but the lack of responders. They're spread way to thin, and can not respond in a timely manner to all incidents. If you've watched the news in Detroit recently, the responders will be the first ones to tell you that.

Detriot is just another big city. No better, no worse than any other. They may burn more only because its a dying city. The city managment is a joke, the unemployment, the welfare state. My wifes family live just outside the City. They cant wait to move because the cancer that is Detriot is starting to creep into their neighborhoods with the crime, arsons, and gangs. As for the FD, Yes they do well with what they have granted. Best,most experenced,respected? Maybe in Michigan but not everywhere..

I respect all FD's/Police/Sheriff/State Patrol/EMS and can't forget the Dispatchers either the eyes behind the scenes. They are all demanding jobs and the people that do it are all #1 in my book.
