Does anyone know if DHSES frequencies are active around Albany? If so, is it non-encrypted? I have SDS100 with the Remtronix tri-band and I want to see what I can hear now with an enhanced antenna. Thanks everyone!

DHSES very rarely uses two-way radio communications. Once in a while they conduct radio checks from the field with their watch center either on their statewide low band network or on their various talk groups on county systems across the state. They have two talk groups on the Albany/Schenectady TRS. If you’re in the Cap District I’d go with those two TG’s first. They tend to use the trunked systems over their low band system which is more of a dooms day system.

They're not active on those 2 talkgroups on the County Simulcast site, they might be on the metro. I have heard/seen DHSES and the FBI using some unidentified talkgroups for operations, some radios unencrypted at times.

Their home system is Metro-25/MRRS only two of their talkgroups are in the clear, that is Watch Center, and State-Logistics. Rest of their talkgroups are full time encrypted.

They do have talkgroups on some county systems one for Watch Center, and one for ops. From what I've see the Ops talkgroups are encrypted.

Occasionally I'll hear chatter on their low band frequencies when they are testing the repeaters, and sometimes if they are in a convoy they'll use the NYTF-2 channel or one of the low band mobile channels. But lately they've seem to be favoring their 7/800 encrypted mobile channels.

When they are using their radios 99% of the time they are going to be using their encrypted talkgroups to figure out lunch plans.

It's actually funny you say that. One our running jokes is encryption allows is to talk about the best lunch spots without Joe blow hearing about it....so we always get a table !
