I have the DMA version of this on my dual band handheld, which I also use for monitoring other things. It works well, and is more durable than another option I tried.

Just make sure you are getting a real one, as I see some clones online.

I own and use several of the Diamond 77s, and they work well.

If you already have a telescopic antenna, you can fine-tune it for a particular frequency by keeping an eye on the signal strength indicator and adjusting the length for maximum signal. I have done that with a scanner that I use on a particular narrow band of frequencies.

Having said that, I used the Diamond 77 for "scanning in general" on a couple of different scanners. I also use the Diamond 77 as a 2 meter/440 antenna on an amateur radio handi-talkie.
