• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Didn’t know where to ask but what is this large antenna used for on the secret service vehicles?

That's definitely a perpective I would never want to see....Fed red and blue with an antenna farm. I have seen the antenna farm on a Suburban (or Yukon or Tahoe idk), but the driver was nice and friendly while he asked me what we were doing at his site. I says...some other three letters doesnt want to play radio any more, then other three letters walks up behind me and Tahoe waves and drives off. Pucker factor of 10.

Anyone in the market for a used antenna?

I think he was saying that he was talking with someone with an antenna farm on their SUV and that some other person working for a 3-letter organization (FBI, ATF, CIA, SOB, BLT, LOL, I don't know) came up to him and he left.

The motorcade sometimes has a specific vehicle for jamming IEDs and cell phone type stuff with several fat antennas but there is only one fat broad band antenna on the vehicle above. I do see other VHF/UHF antennas and what might be a VHF lo whip (maybe a blackened mil 30-90MHz?) on the back so it could be just a commo vehicle. The fat antenna might be a broad band 225-400 for mil com compatibility. If its a com vehicle it might be like a scaled down version of a Roadrunner, which I've had the privilege of touring the insides.

Interesting.
Yes, used for jamming, when Trump was a candidate you'd see it on several vehicles, including the one he was in, Biden yesterday had it on only one SUV and not what he was riding in, there is also a second vehicle with an antenna farm.

Yes, counter drone, IED, etc. I miss the "Roadrunner" rigs....with the two big VHF antennas myself. The X-wing is satcom, also using "phantom" style antennas. VHF/UHF/7/800 MHz, UHF satcom, and counter IED. And, even as a comms guy, one black rig will have a Dillon/Aero M134 that can be flipped up on short notice (I am into comms and guns).

I don't think that specific antenna is used for jamming, that seems to be a done by a separate vehicle with nothing but large fat antennas with heat sinks on some. I'll put $$ on its just a com antenna and probably for 225-400MHz or 118-400MHz another mil band. All the other antennas on the vehicle are narrow band LMR types and you wouldn't see a jammer in the same vehicle that handles 2-way communications. Here is what is believed to be a jamming vehicle and probably manned by someone in the US armed forces as the USSS or any federal agency should not be allowed to jam civilian radio frequencies, but the military can.

The vehicle that RaleighGuy posted with the extra top piece has a bunch of Laird triband antennas and a UHF satcom antenna plus a square flat panel which would be for a satellite service. Its almost like a small version of the Roadrunner which used to be the main communications vehicle for White House Communications and I was asked by the SS at one time what it would take to put DirecTV in a Roadrunner vehicle so they can track all the news channels during an event. I got to climb all through a Roadrunner a number of years ago and unfortunately was not allowed to take any pictures. But I can say it had radios that covered HF through 800MHz including UHF satcom and it was very well engineered. All this is public information of course. Here is a pic of the Roadrunner version that I climbed through.

While I know you are very well informed, I believe the vehicle you posted is an older vehicle, no motorcade in the past year that I have seen (and I have seen many POTUS and VP) has antennas that large anymore, they are limited to the two vehicles I posted above.

Yes, the vehicle I was in has been retired. The vehicle with lots of fat antennas has been seen in more recent times.
