Can somone point me to a web page that has different sounds identified on HF so I know what I am hearing? Like the jamming sounds from russia etc.. Or someone make a sticky with all the different sounds so we can identify what we are hearing. I don't have any software that decodes yet but would be nice to know what to look for. Thanks.

One thing is to get a decent frequency list. EiBi has a few utilities listed, as well as SW stations. that helps me ID jamming noises, and RTTY/related stations that I hear near the SW bands. It would be a start, at least.

I think there are some YT and similar vids out there that have the noises so one can learn to ID them.

One of the guys here, Token, is sort of an expert on the noises one can hear. He might be able to steer us towards a good page that has sound files, etc.

This is hardly complete, but it's a start. There are so many different sounds - some of which might be generated RFI from an appliance- that I doubt that they will ever all be cataloged.

And as for software - there's quite a wide selection dependent on whether you're talking ham radio modes or others. Keep in mind that not everything is decodeable; some are free, others are in heart attack territory

If non ham digital is up your alley, the Utility DXers Forum reflector on groups.io is where you want to be

Remember that when you are using a SSB receiver the pitch of the received audio changes as you tune higher and lower around a signal.
What you hear may not sound exactly like the sound samples posted on the web sites listed previously.

I would like to point out that except for what you might hear on ham bands, a lot of mystery signals won't decode. Exceptions are aircraft HFDL, FAX (mostly weather charts), NBDP (Amtor FEC) weather & notices to mariners, and GMDSS, to name some easy ones. Lots of things 'sound like they should decode' but don't.

ALE (MIL-STD-188-131A/B) is both quite easy to receive and very popular.

Many people - myself included - think that some of these sigs that sound like 75baud data is really STANAG- a mode used by NATO. While it is normally encrypted, you MIGHT catch them with a test tape in the clear. Again, the Utility DXers Forum reflector is really the best place for up to date utility non-ham logs, digital and voice.
