Was at the outlet mall yesterday and brought the scanner to listen for activity, mall security and bass pro shops. Caught digital transmissions on the mall maint and security frequencies. Saw a couple of mall cops go by with what looked like a Vertex 720 DMR radio. Wonder if anyone knows what changes have taken place at the mall?

Would not surprise me one, Simon seems to be making the smart migration to DMR at many of their Georgia malls. Town Center has Vertex EVX series and XPR portables for security, Lenox was on analog last I was there, but that was over a year ago.
I wonder if Mall of Georgia will go DMR too? It seems like they would, I have been told they have had long running problems with "Baofeng bandits" on their two VHF narrowband repeaters. VHF was an odd choice for an indoor coverage solution.
going DMR would leave the Baoturd bandits in the cold, and offer superior coverage and thanks to RSA (Radio Subscriber Authentication), no worries about unauthorized turds bootlegging on your repeater. Add encryption and you can be totally safe from Al Queda! Malls are, after all, a soft target.
