I use my SDS100 stationarily with Proscan and therefore have removed the battery since I have it powered on a dedicated power supply via the USB micro port.. Frankly it doesn't make sense to me why discovery mode ceases to function with no battery even if I disable recording. Custom Search mode works fine with no battery but has no "compare to database" function which is why I often use it over custom search mode for discovering new stations.

Also would it be possible to add an option to show system, site & TGID info along with tone info (which is shown?) during discovery searches in the same fashion as displayed in custom searches? Or at least be given the option to display system/site/TGID info versus upper or lower limits up top? I feel it would be valuable to have this for the x36HPs in addition to the SDS's. Thanks for continuing to support the older models @JoeBearcat

Card corruption odds if power is lost.

The x36 lifetime is getting up there so the benefit/cost ratio may no longer be there.

I totally agree. There's no more risk of SD card corruption than when a mobile scanner are used in a car. The power plug can come lose, the battery voltage goes so low during a start of the engine that the scanner resets. It should have been fine with just a warning message when a feature that use recordings are enabled, "SD card can be corrupt if power are lost" for both mobile and portable scanners. And if that happens we reformat the SD card and reload the programming or we carry a cloned spare card with us. Totally disable all recordings are just unnecessary and a nuisance.

Yet look at the complaints when that does happen currently.

Is it better to try to avoid corruption or just accept that it will happen occasionally? (yes - serious question)

Let the user decide, by having that warning message and not automatically disable recordings. If it detects a battery it could still disable recordings if the low voltage alarm goes on, as it does now. Use the firmware code line that detects that are battery are not present and display that warning text for 5 sec, or clear it when a button are used, but skip the recording disable flag.
