I do know of at least one "Rescue Squad" in MD that has only ambulances, and no rescue equipment beyond rescue tools. They are the Lower Somerset Rescue Squad. They have 3 ALS ambulances and Cover Lower Somerset Co (Sta 8) from Crisfield MD. They are a really good company, and they were founded in the 80's I believe. They are totally seperate from the Fire Company, but do have some duel members. Not sure why they are called a Rescue Squad, but am sure there was some reasoning behind it when they started the department.

Chris

Thanks, I do hear them transport once in a while. But mainly have the jaws of life for accidents + flood lights to see.

Answer to "What is an AFRA?"

Hmmmm..... a Montgomery County listener.

Basically AFRA is an acronym for usually an engine company or ladder truck with a paramedic and advanced life support (ALS) equipment.
Plain and simple, a fire truck with a paramedic on-board (with a EKG Monitor and drug kit of course).

These units have a staff of three with atleast one being a paramedic. At the beginning of each shift, the shift captain normally decides which employees will be assigned to what piece of apparatus. The captain will then assign a paramedic with equipment to either the engine or a ladder truck and that piece becomes the AFRA. "ALS equipped Fire and Rescue Apparatus"

Hope this helps.

RIT = Rapid Intervention Team

Used on working fires. A RIT team is established in the event that something goes wrong with the initial hoseline crew, a rapid intervention team or "RIT" is in place with a charged handline to take action.
Hope this helps.

Re: Answer to "What is an AFRA?"

THANKS & IT DOES A LOT, I thought it was AFRO but thanks for correcting me. Kind of like the QUINT as in 'QUINT 40" Also I hope the people in that ATV are ok that I heard today! Now if only someone can fix the MDC'S they seem to be like the CAD was [or still is] as in down most of the time.

Re: RIT = Rapid Intervention Team

Never heard of that term yet, I heard of something with a S like SAT before. Also I am hearing ECC be PCC & I think it was EOC before it was ECC. [was in to react some years back when they were underground]

Thanks

Thanks, maybe this is why I hear 'MO' a lot. Thought it was MENTALLY OFF" that is what the police [stepbrother] told me. But then again every agency can us the same message but it means different to different agencies [strange], Thanks again.
