Ok, I've spent a good solid hour now looking around for this information, and so far the only thing I have found is a remark about the boot screen of the SDS100 being 240 x 320 (see SDS100: - SDS-100 boot screen). I'm sure someone will easily be able to embarass me and point me right at this info, but in the meantime I'm really surprised I haven't found it yet. I was composing an email to a good friend of mine who has been listening to scanners for as long as I have (about 50 years) and thought I'd throw in the differences in screen resolution. Is the larger display on the SDS200 the same resolution with larger pixels? Can you all who own both tell any difference with them side-by-side? Is the SDS200 easier to read?

Anyway - I'll be grateful to anyone who can point me to some reputable source (like, I'd think, the specifications section of the Owner's Manual??)
Sincerely,
Jeff Adams

Thank you for the link to the Universal Radio display information - there is a lot of detail there to keep a person busy for awhile. I still didn't see an actual statement of screen resolution (e.g., 240 x 320). It may be right there staring me in the face, but at my age I may be missing it.
my bitmap for the SDS200 is 480 wide and 320 high
Thanks for making this clear. I'm just surprised that this is not in the owner's manual (or maybe it is and I'm blind :)

I run my SDS100 and SDS200 side-by-side. The SDS100 looks sharper/clearer/blacker blacks/colors pop more, like OLED. The SDS200 looks like LCD in comparison. The SDS200 is not bad, and actually quite good, but not as good as the SDS100.

Tom,
I have just purchased BCD996P2 and I am thinking about the SDS200
I wonder how you like it and if you really think it it worth $700?
You can email me at my QRZ email,
Thanks, Lance K8LCS in Jackson

I posted this question to Amazon and here is what Uniden Support said:

UnidenSupport answered:
"To answer your question:
SDS100: 240 x 320
SDS200: 480 x 320"

If someone knows how to put this in the FAQ for each device, please either let me know and/or go ahead and add it if this info is seen as useful. I'm surprised that the SDS200 has more than 2x the area: SDS100 is 240 x 320 = 76,800, SDS200 is 480 x 320 = 153,600.

Thank you for everyone's help.

Are you? It sure seems like the display area on the SDS200 is right about twice the width of the SDS100 and about the same height. I could be wrong! But it seems like the resolution would fit that.

No I am not sure of anything, to be honest with you. I just know that's what the person who labeled themselves a "Uniden representative" send me on Amazon. Anyone here covering for UPman?

Since you have both the SDS100 ans 200, can you please give me your advice on which one to buy? My preference is quality sound, and reception. I live in a rural area and have been using a Uniden Bearcat BC178XLT for years. The Fire Departments in my area will be upgrading to a VIPER System soon. My VHF reception has been anywhere from marginal to good on the old Uniden. I like the portability of the 100, but require the best audio and reception. If all are equal I will go with the 100, if not then the base unit will be my choice.
Thanks

I agree with that the 100 is sharper and the 200 looks muddied in comparison. Both are perfectly readable.

The speaker audio is better on the SDS200--it has a more powerful audio amplifier and a larger speaker. With headphones there's not much difference, though.

Reception is pretty similar between the two. I have a 436HP, 536HP, SDS100, and SDS200 all connected to the same discone antenna through a multicoupler, and it's very rare for one scanner to pick up something the others don't, unless the signal is simulcast, and the x36 units are the ones missing the traffic.

The screen on the SDS200 is exactly twice the size and resolution of the SDS100--480x320 vs. 240x320. Both screens are sharp and clear, but the SDS200 screen is easier to read because it is twice as big and uses larger fonts to fill the larger screen area.

If you want portability and handheld convenience, get the SDS100. If you prefer louder and clearer speaker audio and a larger screen, get the SDS200.

Thank you for the reply. Trying to find a comparison of the two on Google has been difficult, to say the least. I certainly do not hear as well as I used to, so I think I will buy the 200. Thanks again.
