• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi All,
I just got the Motorola DM3601 (MDM27TRH9LA2AN) ver.no: R01.04.00 radio & the DM3400 (MDM27TRC9JA2AN) Ver No: R01.08.32 model as well.

Can anybody please confirm what Band variant is the DM3601 MDM27TRH9LA2AN & the DM3400 (MDM27TRC9JA2AN) radios thx? and if it is the UHF1 or UHF2 band version? As Google AI says its UHF1, then next search its the UHF2 band? I'm hoping its the UHF2 version!

Also anyone know where I can download MOTOTRBO_Radio_Driver.msi thanks?
I just googling I think (not 100% sure) if its the CPS 16 Build 828 software is that for both radios or different software versions?
Also please advise what type of programming cable is suitable for the DM3601 and the DM3400 radio as well?

Thank you very much ... Any help would gratefully appreciated!!!

You need to go to the Motorola Web Site and set up a Account for you these are 16 year old radios it may be free or you may have to pay for it. What FCC License do you have as these are not like the Family Service Radios? Last here is the slick on these radios.

The Motorola DM3601 mobile radio requires MOTOTRBO Customer Programming Software (CPS) to configure settings, channels, and features. It is often available for free via the Motorola Solutions Support website after registration. A specialized USB programming cable is necessary to connect the DM3601 to a computer to use the software.

Key Details for DM3601 Programming:
  • Software Type: MOTOTRBO CPS 2.0 or current version.
  • Access: Requires a registered account at the Motorola Solutions Customer Hub or Partner Hub.
  • Alternative: Some users may utilize Motorola RadioCentral or authorized dealers for configuration.
  • Functions: Enables setting frequencies, analog/digital channels, contact lists, and scanning lists.
    motorolasolutions.com +4
Common Pitfalls:
  • Software Version: If the radio has been updated with newer firmware, older CPS versions might not work.
  • Password Protection: Codeplugs can be password protected, preventing access to settings.
You will need a standard programming cable for the MOTOTRBO mobile series to connect to the computer's USB port.

Only by looking at the photos, it appears it's the same as the XPR 4550 or 4350 model sold here in the states. I'd go get 16.828, and see if you can read the radios. Once you can read the radios it will tell you which band split it is. An account is free at Motorola and you can after some effort prowl around and find that on their site as well as likely software for it. I just dowloaded some software for the 4550 so I can only assume it's on their site for that radio also but I wasn't looking for that model, I was looking for the NA (North American) stuff.

Please don't ask for copyrighted software.
Thank you for your responses. I have signed up an acct with Motorola, but cannot find the CPS 16 Build 828 or cps 2.0 build anywhere?
found > Customer Programming Software > only option is "Download CPS R11.00".
When I try to click on link "Download CPS Software for ASTRO and MOTOTRBO > get error message "Forbidden - You don't have permission to access this resource".
searched "CPS 16 828" & "mototrbo cps 2 0 software download", etc, same two links above displayed again.

By any chance, does anybody have that software they can send me thanks?

Also for the DM3400 Radio, is it the same software thanks?

Further Info on DM3601 Radio :
I powered up the DM3601 , works great.
Radio info > fireware ver. R01.08.10 (radio sticker says R01.04.00).
CP Ver. 10.00.01 (whats CP ver?)
Password lock > prompting for current password?. Does that mean the radio is password locked? but I can scroll the the menu options on the radio?
I dont have the programming cable (not sure which one to get yet) or the CPS software yet, so cannot check/test on PC.

Thank you for your help :)

The T in the model number indicates its UHF2

if I were you, I'd stop pressing buttons on the radio and wait till you get the cable, frankly the software will do you absolutely no good without the cable. I'll have to look and see exactly where 16.828 is on the site, I haven't looked for it lately and they changed a LOT of stuff around there from what most things on an internet search show, or at least to me it seemed so.

Also, assuming your account is okie dokie, get them on live chat (or even call on the phone maybe whichever is easier). I had to spend about 2 hours off and on with them in chat to get some permissions done correctly on my account, after that I was able to download the Wideband EID for 'CPS 2.0 for like 5 bucks. (ok maybe $5.90). anyway they were brief and short to the point in chat but they were able to get it straightened out after 4 or 5 chat sessions. Mystically after they activated the permissions I was able to use the "Free software site" and get most of what I was looking for.

see if this works,

follow the instructions there except, where it says "subscribe to non licensed software, click on subscribe to free software.....then you'll have something pop up and you can scroll down and see all the "free" stuff the Mototrbo software is there.

Now then, again, this is assuming the US stuff, I have no idea what you'll see you your account if you're not in the US or need Non NA software.

Thanks all for your responses.
Thank you K9KLC & buddrousa for additional information and help :)
and thank you K2NEC for info as well, so definitely the T model stands for UHF2 band for both the DM3601 MDM27TRH9LA2AN & the DM3400 (MDM27TRC9JA2AN) ? Thats great news ! (wont know officially till get Cable delivered, ordered now as well).

Yes looks like the Motorola website is still saying Login-unauthorized on a few of the webpages for link shown above? maybe still processing the login credentials?
Just now tried again a few times, and now a yellow alert message in middle of webpage says
"You have limited access view due to having an individual user account type. To receive full access, please see this article: How to upgrade to Business Account" ?
So have they changed things around and requesting for individuals to upgrade to business acct now?
They definitely do make it hard to download the free CPS 16 Build 828 software indeed lol

You need to contact Motorola and get the issues with your account worked out. This is not the place to do that.

With that, this thread is closed. It's been creeping dangerously close to the software prohibition....
