I have a old Uniden Sportcat handheld. I haven't used it or listened to scanners in years. It still works and I want to listen to the local sheriff.
Looking up the frequency on the database it says this "Wood Co Sheriff Dispatch switched to DMR 2-2016"
There is a frequency listed then this under the description "Sheriff Dispatch (simulcast of 154.725 over analog)"
I'm not sure what the "switched to DMR" means even though i tried to look it up.
Can I still listen over the frequencies listed?
Thanks for any help.

It sounds like they've moved their operations to DMR, which is a digital radio format. You'll need a DMR capable scanner to listen to them...if they're not encrypted.

If it's being simulcast over 154.725, you should be able to hear them in the clear on that channel. Note: You may be missing other traffic not being broadcasted on that channel.

if you want to save money you can get a $25 SDR and use DSD+ to monitor to see if it is encrypted or not before you invest in a stand alone scanner
