I purchased the DMR upgrade for my BCD436HP several months ago and it seemed to install properly. I have never gotten any DMR reception. I am probably missing a step in the set-up process. Can you suggest what it might be, or what to look for? (And where to look?) I'm a novice at this, but I do have an otherwise working radio and a station listed by RR programed into one of the Favorite lists. Thanks for any help you can provide.

DMR

One possibility is that the frequencies have DMR certification from the FCC but the user is still on FMN or has not upgraded yet.

Typical DMR systems/frequencies (with some exceptions) are more "site" or "location" based - meaning - they serve the facility or campus where they operate. In other words, in many cases, you need to be fairly close to a DMR repeater to hear the activity. Having said that, there are some leasing companies that cover a much larger area (trash trucks, concrete delivery, towing companies, taxis, etc.).

There is also a known (but unacknowledged) reception issue for the 450Mhz range on the 436.

Not knowing exactly where you are and what you are trying to monitor, I cannot say for sure if any of these could be the issue.

DMR Q response

I am trying to monitor the Brewster, N.Y. police department on 153.8075. I am in Brewster several times each month for a good part of the day and have never heard them transmit. I thought I missed something in the set-up process when I installed the DMR program from Uniden.

Dmr reception

I can regularly monitor at least 2 DMR repeaters that are over 20 miles away on my HT. Antenna height and power output of the repeater are two of the biggest variables, just as any other type of repeater, digital or analog.
