Recently I have been unable to receive radio transmissions from Sunnyvale DPS. I can hear dispatch but not mobile units.
Also, I can no longer pick up anything from Sunnyvale Fire.

After learning of and reading as much as I could regarding Sunnyvale DPS transitioning to a new radio system along with Santa Clara (and possibly more agencies) I am still unclear on when the new system will be 100% implemented and if my 20 year old Realistic 10 channel programmable scanner will be able to pick up the radio transmissions.
Will I need a new/modern trunking style pre-programmed scanner unit with a gazillion channels and SD cards and with bluetooth/wifi/smartphone USB megadata decoder synchronized de-scrambler.....
just to listen to Fire & PD?

Thank you

Yes you need a Phase 2 digital scanner. Soon all of the Bay Area Police and Fire will be on 760 MHz band. Be ready to pay around $500 for that scanner.

kmh603 Thank you for the reply.
Yeah, after lookin' around I kinda figured it'd cost me 500 or so to resume listening to SVDPS.

My next thread will be looking for recommendations for a new user friendly high tech scanner.

Geez it wasn't all that long ago where we needed new scanners because everything moved to Motorola trunked and I had to learn all about that, now its P25 Phase 2 digital...

Ok, what's comes next then, besides the big "E"?

Give me back the days where you plugged in 10 crystals and that was the extent of it.

For a user friendly scanner that can do Phase II, the HP-2 will also monitor this system. But yeah, it's also a $500 scanner.
